Looking at the title, you might think that it is about a man being confident but it’s actually not!
Directed by Ryo Tanaka and Hiro Kanai (A Girl & Three Sweethearts), The Confidence Man JP revolves around a group of con artists (including a woman!). These con artists work together to steal the wealth from the devious rich people and give them to the less fortunate (while taking a nice cut for themselves…or at least they try to!)
Here are 5 reasons why you should watch The Confidence Man JP now and tell your friends about it!
Its original script is written by Ryota Kusowa
Ryota Kusowa is one of the most critically-acclaimed scriptwriters in Japan. He has written original screenplays for romantic comedy Dating: What’s It Like to be in Love, mystery melodrama Legal High series, and thriller Parasyte series.
He was given the opportunity to write the script for The Confidence Man JP which is simultaneously produced in Japan, China, and Korea. It’s his first to write an adventure comedy!
A refreshing storyline
The Confidence Man JP is not just like any J-comedy. It has a refreshing storyline filled with surprising twists. Three con artists use their tactical skills to take the money from the rich. In each episode, they use strategies in approaching each target – a financial ‘godfather’, a selfish resort owner, and more!
You may not be able to tell whether their approaches are real or fake! Feeling cheated, yes, but that what makes this drama series more entertaining. Expect having mixed reactions about the scenes INCLUDING the endings.
The leading cast’s amazing chemistry
Popular actors Masami Nagasawa, Masahiro Higashide, and Fumiyo Kohimata play the following characters:
- Dako – A bubbly and cheerful con woman. Specializes in learning quickly and disguising herself in various professions.
- Boku-chan – A handsome, sincere, and timid con man. Always gets himself into trouble (thanks to Dako!).
- Richard – A veteran con man. Lightens up the team’s morale with his smiles and expertise.
With great teamwork, they show their mind-blowing tricks and trades of con artists.
They are hilariously funny, too! – adorable quarrels between Masami Nagasawa and Masahiro Higashide; Masahiro Higashide being cute and sulky after being tricked by Masami Nagasawa and Fumiyo Kohimata; and the ‘above-the-average’ Masami Nagasawa tries to be a beautiful and sexy lady.
A group of con artists are all in this together!
Three of them are not the only ones in tricking their targets.
With the help from a group of ‘actors’, they set up the locations, lure the baddies into their traps, and play their own scenarios. They act so well that you will believe that all these are REAL but turn out to be FAKE!
How are they able to do that? Watch them in action at the secret casino and Iwaki Airport.
Weird but tasty food combination
Dako and Richard celebrate their victories by having two TOTALLY different kinds of food together – natto (fermented soybeans) on potato chips, foie gras (goose liver) and squid fillets, and danko (sweet dumplings) dipped in consommé soup.
It sounds weird but your mouth will water as you watch them enjoy eating them. You might have a go in trying out these extraordinary food combinations.
Surprising and funny, enjoy watching three ‘confident’ artists’ thrilling adventures based on love, money, trust, and loyalty. Time for you to decide which scenarios are real and fake.
